"In order to take, one must first give."
It all started in high school... I was interested in philosophy at the time and came across some fortunes from fortune cookies which I considered quite "philosophical." Rather than just throw them away, I started collecting these fortunes so that I could refer to them at a later time. I must have collected quite a few by my senior year because the last page of my college application included a piece of paper with 5 fortunes taped to it, and each fortune was intended to convey to the admissions office that it was my fate to attend that school. Luckily, I did get in to Penn. It must have been the fortunes.
But it didn't stop there. On my first night in college, the only person I had met was my new roommate. While I already told my parents to kindly leave, my roommate's Mom hadn't left yet, and out of the goodness of her heart she invited me out to dinner that night. It was the first night I ever ate at Beijing Chinese restaurant on 37th and Spruce, and that fateful evening started a mild obsession with Beijing which lasted 4 years, where I would come to know the owners (Mark and Alex) as well as my favorite staff (Terry and Anna) very well.
At the end of my senior year, I had amassed a large amount of fortunes. It was at this time when I first thought of an album to put all of my fortunes in. But my fortune collecting didn't stop just there either. For 2 years I lived in New York City, and on my corner stood a very good restaurant named Noodle Corner. Finally, after about 10 years of collecting fortunes, I have a total of 308.
Without further adieu, I am pleased to share with you a very high-quality product, the Fortune Album. - Mike
